Ascension Ranked #8 on Fortune Magazine’s 2024 Best Small Workplaces™ List; 1st Catholic Company to Earn a Spot

[Exton, PA, August 28, 2024—]

In a rare achievement, Ascension placed in the Top 10 during its 1st year as an honoree.

Fortune magazine has named Ascension #8 on the 2024 Fortune Best Small Workplaces™ List, an absolutely remarkable feat for a 1st-time honoree. Earning a spot on this list means that Ascension is one of the best companies to work for in the country. Ascension is the 1st Catholic organization to receive this recognition.

Ascension President and CEO Jonathan Strate warmly welcomed this news: “Being recognized as one of the top 10 best small companies to work for in America is a tremendous honor and a testament to the amazing team we have working here at Ascension. I am beyond grateful to the staff here who contribute every day to making Ascension a great place to work. It is a privilege to lead such a wonderful team in our ongoing commitment to creating a workplace where everyone’s talents are nurtured in pursuit of achieving our Catholic mission.”

The Best Small Workplaces list is highly competitive. To determine the list, Great Place to Work analyzed the survey responses of over 31,000 employees from Great Place to Work Certified™ companies with 10 to 99 U.S. employees.

Survey responses reflect a comprehensive picture of the workplace experience. Honorees were selected based on their ability to offer positive outcomes for employees regardless of job role, race, gender, work status, or other demographic identifier.

“Some of the strongest work cultures we measure every year come from companies with relatively small headcounts,” says Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place To Work. “Companies that make this highly competitive list offer the care and support found at companies 10 times their size.”

Cassandra Schmidt, Senior Manager of the People and Culture Team at Ascension, is delighted by this remarkable news.

Schmidt comments: “I am thrilled that we have not only been recognized as one of Fortune’s Top 100 Best Small Workplaces, but also have secured a place in the Top 10. This incredible achievement underscores our deep commitment to investing in our people. We listen to our team members, champion their needs, and are dedicated to creating an environment where everyone can succeed. This honor reflects the dedication and passion of our team, and we couldn’t be more proud of the culture we’ve all built together here at Ascension.”

Ascension was named earlier this summer as a 2024 Fortune Top 100 Places to Work for Millennials List, coming in at #64. The company has also earned Great Place to Work (GPTW) Certification annually from 2021 to present

As part of its 2023 GPTW certification, the company earned a stunning 99% Trust Index Score based on employee feedback, a GPTW evaluation that “measures the level of trust in [the] organization and the consistency of the employee experience.” GPTW reports that a typical company scores 57% on this Index.
