Trusted Catholic Children’s Author Claudia Cangilla McAdam Writes Book on Pentecost: “The Day God’s Helper Came”

[Exton, PA, April 19, 2024—]

The Day God’s Helper Came teaches children the importance of trusting God, how to ask for his support in times of need, and how Pentecost connects to the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Beloved children’s author Claudia Cangilla McAdam has written a new picture book for the Ascension Kids series on the sacraments: The Day God’s Helper Came. This engaging tale teaches children ages 4–8 about the story of what happened at Pentecost, the importance of surrendering to the Holy Spirit, and how that same Spirit can guide each believer. The Day God’s Helper Came is  the third volume of the Ascension Kids series on sacraments for school-aged children.

Claudia McAdam explains: “I hope that my young readers realize that through their baptism they have already been infused with the sanctifying gifts of the Holy Spirit, which are ‘sealed’ in them at Confirmation.” McAdam continues, “It’s my prayer that in reading The Day God’s Helper Came, they are encouraged to draw upon those gifts, which help them to grow in virtue and prepare them for heaven.”

The Day God’s Helper Came tells the story of young Hannah, a winsome girl living in the time of the New Testament who has lost many friends because of her belief in Jesus. Hannah wants to leave Jerusalem, her home, so that she will not be laughed at and teased anymore. But her dad reminds her that Jesus asked them to stay in the city and promised to send them a “helper.” When that helper turns out to be the Holy Spirit, young Hannah finds herself witnessing the miracle of Pentecost.

The Day God’s Helper Came empowers Catholic parents, godparents, and educators to teach children to cultivate their  relationship with the Holy Spirit and trust in God’s promises. The book features:

  • Hannah’s exciting fictional story as an eyewitness to the events of Pentecost
  • An explanation of where the story of Pentecost is told in the Bible
  • Easy-to-understand definitions for each of the fruits of the Holy Spirit
  • Inspiring reflection questions that help children ponder their relationship with the Holy Spirit
  • Explanations of how the Holy Spirit and Pentecost are renewed in the Church at every Confirmation

This book is the perfect companion for other Ascension titles written by Claudia McAdam: The Real Presence, A Miracle for Micah, and Louie’s Lent.
